Q: What kind of training do acupuncturists have?
A: Training to become an acupuncturist is very extensive especially in the state of California. To attend an acupuncture college, the prospective student must have an undergraduate degree in the sciences. Then follows an additional six years of study which includes a two year internship. It takes another year of study for the board exams in acupuncture. In California, acupuncturists are granted a primary care license which is the same license granted to physicians although, of course, the two types of medicine encompass different diagnostic and treatment systems.
